Russia & Chuvashia Adventure & Volga River Folk Festival

Mon., June 14 - fly USA to St. Petersburg - Airfare on your own.
Tues., June 15 - Arrive St. Petersburg; Check in at hotel and afternoon take a boat ride thru the canals. Walking tour and evening welcome dinner.
Wed., June 16 - Ethnographic Museum, see the wonderful jewelry collection and the folk
dress. Travel to Peterdvoretz ( Peter's Palace) on the Bay of Finland by hydrofoil.

Thurs., June 17 - Hermitage Museum in morning. Afternoon Shopping. Or visit to the Kunstkammer. Evening train to Moscow.
Fri., June 18 - See Moscow, Red Square and Kremlin; night train to Nizhny Novgorod.
Sat, June 19 - See the Nizny Novgorod museum and the outstanding folk art shop there, enjoy the ancient kremlin overlooking the Volga, marvelous shopping in this cosmopolitan city ; hydrofoil down the Volga to Cheboksary (5 hours) the capital of the Chuvash Republic.Check in at your hotel.

Sun., June 20 - > Stay at the Chuvash hotel for next five days. - Visits to Ethnographic museum and school #19. Special Program for guests. Party at restaurant called AT THE EFREM'S, a famous Chuvash merchant of the beginning of the 20th century who was prosecuted and sent to prison after the October revolution in 1917.

Mon., June 21 - go to country to a banya and saslik party. Chuvash country wedding according to ancient traditions. Overnite in Cheboksary.
Tues., June 22 - All day visit to the museums in Kazan - or option to stay in Cheboksari and shop, sightsee -
Wed. June 23 - Opening ceremonies of the Peoples of the Volga River festival - see craftspeople and folk singing and dancing events - Supper in a nice restaurant where they serve Chuvash food.
Thurs., June 24 - More Festival Events; Supper at OU EMELI (At the Emelya's;) a famous Chuvash restaurant. ( Emelya is a famous personage of Russian folk tales)

Fri. June 25 - Bus to Kosmodinyansk, Mari Ethnographic Museum on the banks of the Volga in the open Air. Two hour bus ride. Return to Cheboksary in afternoon. Late evening train to Moscow ( overnight sleeping berths)
Sat., June 26 - Moscow - Visit Art Museum, Artist's Studios. History Museum for those interested.

Sun., June 27 - more Moscow - shopping in the Arbat, GUM - Sightseeing on your own or trip on the Moscow River by boat. Possible side trip to Novadevechy Convent.

Mon., June 28 ; Flights to the USA depending on flight schedules.
